In the latest Midwest Region rankings, the OU women’s
cross country team has taken the No. 1 spot.
It is the first time in OU history that the women have been
ranked first overall. They overtook Missouri for the No. 1 overall
ranking on Tuesday.
Nationally, the Sooner women’s team is ranked No. 27
behind teams such as Notre Dame, Michigan and Duke.
The women’s squad finished first in the Southern Stampede
two weeks ago in Joplin, Mo., which prompted their vault into the
national rankings.
Last week was the first time a Sooner women’s cross
country team had been nationally ranked. They entered the polls at
number No. 29.
The Sooner men’s team and the No. 1 women’s team
travel to South Bend, Ind., this weekend to compete in the Notre
Dame Invitational. It is one of the bigger meets of the season and
will feature nine nationally ranked women’s teams.
The No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Stanford University, will
also be competing on Friday.
The men and women’s B teams will be competing against
schools such as Oklahoma State in the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater
this Saturday.
Oklahoma State is No. 2 behind the women’s squad in the
latest WICCCA Midwest Region rankings.
