Time for Accountability by Michael Carr
Michael Carr obviously gets biased information from who other than CNN. Mr. Carr needs to do two things before I take anything he writes seriously. 1) Go see Celcius 41.11. If you saw Farenheit 911, you need to see Celcius 41.11. 2) Talk to someone from Iraq. They are everywhere, you just have to ask. One of my friend's dad just visited family in Iraq and he told me that everyone there loves Bush and their new freedoms. Carr, if you refuse to see Celcius 41.11, you can no longer call yourself an "open-minded liberal." No more propaganda from ill-advised sources like Mr. Carr.
--Matt
Mr. Carr that article brought a tear to my eye. You know its hard being a liberal in a very very conservative state, but you have made it easier. Rock On.
--Bobby
I really think you need to put things in perspective to get the overall picture our country is facing now. First, you assert that the president and his spinmiesters are hypnotizing voters ( people are either misinformed..) to believe their [Bush] economic and foreign policies. However, I would argue John Kerry and his supporters are more or at least equally guilty of progandizing this election. For example, look at how John Kerry spinned the Flu Shot Shortage epidemic. Seriously, as if Bush really has that much control over this. Granted if he wanted to impose some bureacratic big government big business socialist program like John Kerry's 600 billion-800 billion healthcare program, he might be held a little more accountable. Also, look at Kerry's use of scare tactics like asserting Bush will implement the draft. Come on, Michael Moore, Woopi Goldberg, and all these other obviously biased groups who are attempting to distort the facts about the election and the man running for it. Do some research into Michael Moore and you will discover he is really an anti-semantic idiot; his film is a complete distortion of facts-check out an article by Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball on MSNBC.
Fiscal accountability (largest tax cut in history...)? Hate to break it to you Michael, but this isn't exactly an attribute a lot of politicians have. Certainly a $600-800 billion dollar Healthcare policy will not encourage fiscal responsibiltiy. Meanwhile, Kerry claims he is going to win the war in Iraq, cut the budget in half and increase spending tremendously (Education proposals, etc). Sooooo, who is really misinformed? Those who support an individual who promises everything or someone who clearly outlines a plan of action. Accountabiltiy huh? Basic economic theory would show that lower taxes would let businesses thrive, because it reduces the costs associated with producing those products. Ouch, those tax hikes Kerry proposes (in the range of 700 billion) won't cover the 2.5 trillion of extra spending he plans on committing this nation to (Heritage Foundation). Where are those taxes going to hit hardest? Small businesses who incidently account for 7 of 10 all new jobs created(Pres. Debates). Hmmmm, sounds like John Kerry is really accountable. The latest Noble Prize Economics Winner recently said on Fox News that the Tax cuts by Bush are EXACTLY the way this country needs to be moving-actually, he even said there should be more tax cuts. Hey, wait why is overspending a problem? You don't really address this Michael but let me let you in on a little secret. Many pundits believe large deficits trigger higher interest rates (not necessarily true either). High interest rates cause banks to lend to businesses and individuals at higher rates. However, you will notice interest rates are still very low. Guess what though, the US still has a 1/3 of the deficit that Japan has and 1/2 of Europes.
So John Kerry is really a straight and true guy huh? You know the Bush Administration could go after a lot of personal stuff on this guy. For example, why the man who might lead our country threw his medals away or his exploitation of Dick Cheney's daughter for a political point. But all they really do is say-Hey, look at the guy's voting record. Can you make sense of it, Michael? I sure can't.
Ok, foreign policy. I think Cheney succintly outlined the reasons for going to war in the VP Debates. We have to look at the Terrorist networks and nations capable of supplying terrorist weapons. Iraq had weapons of mass destruction in the first gulf war (they launched 39 scuds against Israel) and gased 5000 kurds. So obviously, they had weapons. Next, Iraq for 12 years violated the UN sanction codes. John Kerry's economic sanctions (if in place) would only starve the individual people-Saddam would be having a margarita in one of his palaces. Moving the war on terror to Iraq was one of the best decisions made, so we could take out the terrorist support structures, go after one of Osama's best buddies Zarkalwi, and it has already had repucussions in Libya and elsewhere. Furthermore, it placed the battleground in the terrorits home front instead of ours. In terms of success, I would argue it is one of the most successful invasions ever. Facilties including schools, power, education, and commerce are well above pre war levels and more and more Iraq troops are being trained. Oh wait, Bush is so organized they are doing this in two nations. Michael, yes we have taken some casualties but look at Germany after WWII, they had insurrections, problems with Nazis, etc. They even had to use former Nazis in many government positions. Yet, Germany is one of our closest allies. This transition will not last that long, and soon a successful democratic nation will flourish showing the rest of the arab world, the fruits of democracy and liberalism.
I think in the third Presidential debate, John Kerry truly showed how misinformed he was. He seems to believe we will be able to go after North Korea alone. Hahahaha, well Michael my friend, let me tell you, I have been to North Korea and Kim Jong Il told me he would vote for John Kerry. Ok, sorry that was distasteful but seriously this is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Not only will North Korea walk out on any unilateral talks with just the US but they will demand crazy things while they do it (like they did this week with Colin Powell). Soooo, multilateral talks are the most effective way to deal with North Korea. Bush's way, the informed accountable way.
So, Michael you really need to be held accountable for your comments....ouch, yeah score a point for me. But hey if you and your friends want to make the misinformed vote, go for it, MTV Rock the Vote, right?
Legalize it!

Holy cow. You need to find yourself a girl, mate. Or perhaps the reason that you write three pages worth of feedback is that you have found a girl and are otherwise incapable of wooing said strumpet.
It's official! Although we've always known that the OU Daily was biased, liberal, and had NO concern about simply reporting the news as it is, we now have you putting "student submissions" about voting for Kerry while not simply giving us both sides of the story. Why? Why do you choose to give all of your readers a biased account? Do you think we are not educated, or intelligent enough to make a decision on our own? I truly believe that is it! That is and has always been the creed of the Democrats. Us mericans is to Stupid ta decid fer ourselves what we's want? You believe that we need to be told what to do and how to do it. That if we did not have the government holding our hand and guiding our every move, we would be lost. By electing George Bush as President and continuing a Republican Congress, you think, proves that we need you because we are too dumb to know that "we are hurting ourselves. Right? After all, it was Hilary who said "We take things from you for your own good." Well, you're wrong. Did it ever occur to you that it is you who are wrong, backwards, and un-American? You want to get America "respectable" in the "world" again, by getting input by the U.N., which is mainly composed of thrid world countries who, by the way, we are the primary monetary supporter of. Also, you want a leader that would give these countries power over our soldiers and citizens overseas by trying them in the World court. This means that others need only bring a suit against anyone American for any reason, be it a lie or the truth, and we, Americans who were given the power by OUR constitution to the right of a fair trial by OUR OWN peers, not the world. If Kerry becomes President, our constitutional rights will be taken away if we are subject to the world court. But you democrats do not see this. You only see hate. You have this in depth hatred of the President for an unfounded reason, he won! Every recount done by impartial and independent groups found that the President won by some 500+ votes. Yes, he lost the popular vote, but we have never elected the President by popular vote. OUr fore fathers were smart beyond their years when they formed the electoral college. It is the only thing in America that prevents rule by the coasts. If we only went by the popular vote, Oklahoma would never have a say in the Presidential election, and thats the way liberal Dems want it. You see, they want our voices to be silent because if the election was based on the popular vote, a Republican would never be President due to the far leftist mentality of the coasts. Our values, morals, and way of life would be challenged day after day and we, Oklahomans, would be branded weird, backward, stupid, and unwilling to change. Huh, we already are branded those things by the liberal coasts aren't we? So, you at the Daily can print all the biased information you want, but it will fall on deaf ears to the majority. This is because we ARE Oklahomans, and we ARE Americans! We beleive in the rights given to us by our creator as wll as those by our constitution. We do not want the world to decide our fate! And after the constant lawsuits brought by you, the liberal, World, Democrats, you WILL hear us, the stupid, dumb, backward, unwilling to change Oklahomans!
--Cameron
Wowsee previous statement.
I don't have much time. I think you are wrong on many points. If you want accountability, why in the world would you elect Kerry??????
--Micah
A very well written Article Indeed. It exposes the truth and vilifies bush , which he thoroughly deserves. Let Kerry win this Election for the betterment of all. Kerry : Just Do It!
--Kaisar
Congradulations for vomiting the standard liberal spew that I hear everyday on tv. Now I can read it on SIN too! Are we supposed to actually bother and try to explain the answers to the 13 year old that wrote this, or just snicker at the joke? I must have missed the 'Bush is soooo dumb' article, or that next. Hey SIN, how about keeping your writers on some shred of accountability for non-super crappy writing? You could start by make them actually intelligently argue something instead of reading off some Kerry talking points.
--Chris
The only reason we have posted mainly liberal articles on the site is because they are the only kind of political articles weve been getting. If you dont like it, then instead of writing two pages of feedback griping about it, write a conservative article and well gladly post it. If you would like more information about submitting, email sinwriting@ou.edu.
Comments from a Stoned Slacker by Genevieve Rice
Great piece. Myself a Daily Show supper fan and both a stoner and a slacker, I share the same views with Ms. Rice. I also agree that in order to get the whole picture and I mean THE WHOLE thing, one must be able to investigate and trully find out from many points of view about a certain topic before making a judgment. It's crucial in a democracy - meaning demo kratos (people rule) - that the electorate (you) stay involved with current affairs so you can make a good decision on election day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Tania Talks: Being by Tania Taylor
You really need to get Kupec to do some more writing to offset Tania's terrible articles. CaseyK mentioned that he was no longer a student or something, but for the love of Mike, have mercy on your readership!
If nothing else, quit publishing things by Tania.
--Bryan
Josh Kupec is no longer a student at OU, and therefore he can no longer write for us. Sorry man.
ha ha absolutely pathetic, in a world of starving children and war we should be worried about a few extra commitments, grow up.
--Sinon
This is my favorite article of Tania's so far, although the material differs from her usual. It carried a short message so insightful that it didn't need flowery writing to be interesting. I hope to see more of this!
--Shawna
Very well written article ... I am glad that you can stay focus even through the worst time. Good luck .. we feel your pain.
--Lynda
You win some
WTF? Seriously, WTF? Tania's writing is usually about as coherent as an 'Incubus' song, but this one is really bad. What was the message here? I understand I am supposed to 'be.' WTF does that mean? Tania went from submitting her livejournal entries to writing "profound" messages that make little to no sense. Why is Tania allowed to write? Why is she allowed to pollute the SIN columns this way? Why has she not been banned, or better yet, exiled? Stop, Tania. Stop writing. Please, for the decency of all the minds that read the articles on SIN. Stop. Do it, for the kids.
--Isaac
you lose some.
George Bush Movie Villain of the Year by Kevin Costello
I'm glad I've never seen a claim to be fair and balanced on this site - you'd be guilty of libel. Don't you people ever even consider presenting a conservative viewpoint? Maybe you should try it some time. It wouldn't kill you.
--Eric
Dude this one was a joke. Although personally I feel that Leatherface and Elle Driver were robbed in that poll.
Heading to the Polls by Rhett Brackeen
This just goes to show how biased the press and media are. Multiple liberal articles, not one conservative article.
--Matt
Terrible. How could you think that it was logical to compare the simultaneous death of thousands due to a terrorist act with a drive-by shooting? Much less your bad joke about Toby Keith. Also, it is very cynical and ignorant to compare our great country with the Nazis. Sure, you have the right to inflict your opinions on this website for all to see, but keep in mind that your ridiculus comparisons are just as bad as those belonging to those "spinners" you so hate. Could you really believe that ignoring weak points of candidates in an election or rationalizing an event such as 9/11 is smartest thing to do?

Cheap and EasyCostume Ideas by Genevieve Rice
Genevieve Rice takes a cheap and inappropriate shot at the Boy Scouts an organization that helps millions of boys every year learn about self reliance, leadership, community involvement, the pride of volunteerism, and love of the enviornment. They do not discriminate against non christians and are wholey accepting of anyone and any religion. The only requirement is to believe in a higher power than yourself, and this can be anything. This accepts practically 99% of the world, athiests only have to keep their mouths shut. The Boy Scouts do accept gays, so long as they are not open and out about it. This as they see it protects the boys from potential sexual assault. The Boy Scouts retain constitutional protection to have this "discriminatory measure." Gays are allowed so long as they dont tell, and the Boy Scout leadership does not ask. Miss Rice needs to get her facts straight and focus her energy in other places rather than attacking an organization that does far more good than most organizations she supports (example NOW).
--Pat
Hey, who said we support NOW?
You are so funny!! I am Cristian and Homosexuals are a little scary, but alright...BUT I WAS NEVER A BOYSCOUT!! I am a girl though...but anyways I enjoyed your article very much and found your links very helpful!! Thank you very much!!!

What Kind of Monster Are You? by Michelle Pierce
Fabulous article! Very light yet hilarious and clever with a great ending to boot. Kudos to Michelle!
--Cassandra
What a fantastic cheap shot at members of the Republican party! You should be so proud of yourself and your clever wit. Other than your sorry attempt at political stereotyping, your "quiz" was a waste of time to read. It didn't posess a single entertaining quality. Better luck next time...
--James
SIN apologizes to all zombies we may have offended by comparing them to Republicans.
Although I am a republican and found your "quiz" quite humorous. Thanks!!
--Blair
Goofy, but very well written. Good work, Michelle!
--Janet
Amazing. Simply amazing.
