Many students from OU are traveling elsewhere to do their
partying for spring break.
Kelly Healy, branch manager of STA Travel in Oklahoma Memorial
Union, along with other travel agents, has been busy the past
couple of weeks booking trips for many students.
Some of the destinations students have booked are Cancun, Las
Vegas, New York, Chicago, London and Paris, Healy said.
Students have the opportunity to travel to Mexico for as low as
$15. A passport is not needed, only a driver’s license, said
Mary K. Pollard, special events coordinator for the South Padre
Island Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“[It’s] easy to negotiate and a two-nation
vacation,” Pollard said.
Though many students decide to go to areas with sun and sand,
Nancy Parks, psychology junior, is packing her bags and going to
Las Vegas.
“What better place to go?” Parks said. “I can
gamble what money I have.”
Richard Reed, owner of Insider View of Las Vegas, said that an
estimated 75,000 people associated with spring break will be in Las
Vegas.
“It’s the only 24-hour town there is,” Reed
said.
There is no last call there, and the night life is still going
when other places have already ended, Reed said.
Some of the more popular locations for the younger crowd are The
Hard Rock, The Palms and Mandalay Bay. These locations are popular
because they have more events for the younger crowd, Reed said.
If students want to take it to the next level and look for a
destination where it is one big party all night long, Healy said
that she recommends going to Iceland.
One of the more popular locations is South Padre Island.
Gabby Garrison, early childhood education sophomore, said it is
cheap and close for her to make the trip.
“South Padre Island is one big party,” Garrison
said. “I plan to party, relax and have fun.”
