Norman police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of a Bethany man Wednesday around 2 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 9 and 24th Avenue SE, said Officer Jennifer Newell.
The victim, Timothy James Moore, 44, was alive when authorities arrived on the scene but later died at Norman Regional Hospital, Newell said.
Witnesses described the suspect as a white male in his late 40s dressed in what was described as Western attire. Witnesses said he was driving a maroon or red 2000 Chevrolet Astro minivan with Oklahoma tag number 464-PTN. Newell said police have not determined if the suspect is the legal owner of the vehicle.
The suspect was last seen driving east on State Highway 9, Newell said. Norman authorities have notified surrounding law-enforcement agencies who are helping with the investigation.
Police are trying to determine if the suspect knew the victim or if the incident was related to road rage. Witnesses taken in for questioning said an altercation took place between the two drivers. Moore was shot in his gray Cadillac in the eastbound lane of the highway.
Police don?t know what type of gun was used.
State Highway 9 was narrowed to one lane eastbound and closed for westbound traffic for about three hours while police gathered forensic evidence from the victim?s car.
