This semester’s Education Abroad fair is scheduled for 10
a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Oklahoma Memorial Union
Ballroom.
At the fair, students will have the opportunity to talk with
students who have gone on past study-abroad programs and learn
specifics of the programs, said Steven Crumb, letters and French
senior and student assistant in the Education Abroad office.
The Education Abroad staff will be on hand throughout the day to
answer questions about any aspect of studying abroad including
financial aid, credit transfer, coursework and the application
process, Crumb said.
The fair, which is being hosted by the Office of Education
Abroad, is an exposition of more than 100 programs offered to
students, said Millie Audas, director of Education Abroad.
“This is the best way for interested students to get
one-on-one information on programs of study and life abroad,”
Audas said.
She said students can study in most European and Latin American
countries and in many countries in Asia, Africa and Oceania.
OU has active exchange agreements with more than 90 countries
and offers programs in every major world language, Crumb said.
Some programs have no language requirements, but others require
fluency, said Jack Hobson, academic adviser for the Office of
Education Abroad.
Hobson said approximately 150 students are currently studying
abroad.
One student who recently arrived home from a study-abroad
adventure said the study-abroad fair helped her make the decision
to go.
“A lot of people I’ve talked to said their biggest
regret about college was not having pursued studying abroad,”
said Tonya B. Lewis, journalism senior who studied in Mexico in
fall 2003.
“My desire to study abroad was sparked partly by talking
to international students at the study-abroad fair,” she
said.
The application deadline to study abroad this summer is March 5.
Most deadlines for Education Abroad in Fall 2004 are March 1.
