Sooner fans will get more than a sneak peak at next year’s
football team Saturday.
Beginning at noon, Sooner FanFest gets rolling with food, games,
autographs and photo opportunities. The pre-game festivities for
the annual Red-White spring game to be held in Oklahoma Memorial
Stadium will be located in the north plaza outside the stadium.
Kenny Mossman, athletic department media director, said FanFest
will be an opportunity to enhance the experience of an Oklahoma
football game for the whole family.
“It helps us appeal to an even wider audience while giving
our fans yet another way in which they can enjoy their visit to the
stadium,” Mossman said.
FanFest revolves around the NCAA Sport Experience Tour, an
exhibit of interactive games representing various NCAA sports such
as rowing, basketball and soccer.
Also involved in the festivities are last year’s football
award winners and next week’s NFL draft picks Teddy Lehman,
Derrick Strait and Tommie Harris. They will be signing autographs
from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Fans will also have an opportunity to pose for
pictures side-by-side with Jason White’s Heisman Trophy.
”This is a great way to bring you closer to the team and
get a chance to interact with them,” said Josh Jean,
broadcast and electronic media sophomore.
Before the game kicks off at 2 p.m., fans will get a chance to
honor all former OU players in attendance.
At halftime, senior quarterback Jason White will be presented
with the Heisman Trophy. Former OU Heisman winners Billy Sims and
Steve Owens will give the official on-campus presentation.
Last year’s crowd totaled more than 40,000, and a
comparable amount is expected this weekend.
The game will also be televised in Norman on Cox Cable channel
7.
