The Oklahoma wrestling team is holding its annual Red-White
Scrimmage Saturday at Howard McCasland Field House following the
OU-Oklahoma State football game.
The Sooners’ annual intrasquad scrimmage will feature
several key matchups between new faces and OU veterans.
“We’ve got a young team that’s loaded with
talent,” OU head coach Jack Spates said. “We’ll
have some great matches this weekend that people will really
enjoy.”
The Sooners’ regular season doesn’t start until Nov.
15 when they travel to Brockport, N.Y., for the Brockport/Oklahoma
Gold Classic.
This Saturday’s scrimmage will give fans and coaches a
good look at some of the new wrestlers and the quality of wrestling
that can be expected from this year’s Sooners.
“Every one of these, every year, has been an
experience,” senior heavyweight Leonce Crump said.
“It’s a chance to show the fans that they have a
quality crop of athletes.”
During last year’s Red-White Scrimmage, OU fans were able
to catch a first look at freshman and future national champion
Teyon Ware.
Ware is not scheduled to wrestle Saturday.
