Carved turkey, paper decorations and soft music will turn Couch Cafeteria into a festival with more than 900 OU students tasting a traditional Thanksgiving meal tonight.
The dinner, organized by Couch restaurants, will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
Couch Cafeteria wants to be a part of the Thanksgiving meal, offering traditional food along 48 feet of tables in the dining area in order to get more people through them, said Michelle Whitman, Couch restaurants' operations manager.
The cafeteria will have a new distribution of the dining area, more Thanksgiving decorations than last year and more workers that day providing food to OU students in order to avoid waiting lines, Whitman said.
The menu will include carved turkey, carved smoked pit ham and pumpkin pie with special options for vegetarians.
"We want to give more options to vegetarian people, offering them Thanksgiving food without animal proteins in it like green bean casserole, which has no butter, no milk, no eggs and no meat," said Dorothy Flowers, Couch Cafeteria's general manager.
Housing and Food Services will spend 30 percent more money for the Thanksgiving meal than normal.
"We try to get as many people as possible, and we want OU students to be interested in what we do," Whitman said.
After two days making an extra effort, Couch Cafeteria will create a traditional Thanksgiving atmosphere for OU students, Flowers said.
"We want the cafeteria to look different, because we know that students can get bored if the cafeteria looks the same every day," Flowers said.
