The uses of architectural scales and T squares will be on display as part of architecture week, which begins today.
Hans-Peter Wachter, associate professor of interior design, said students' work will be open to the community in 320 Gould Hall as part of architecture week. Wachter said he encourages students, faculty and staff to visit the display.
The Beaux Arts Ball, the Bruce Goff Lecture series and a round-table discussion about current and future outlooks on design are also parts of architecture week, said Brandon Specketer, architecture senior and president of the American Institute of Architecture Students.
Specketer said architecture week is a way to show students on campus what is going on in the College of Architecture. He said architecture week brings all the divisions of the college together for one cause.
"AIAS members encourage students to come see what's going on in the college and to participate in the events," Specketer said. "This week is a community event for the college and the university."
Specketer said he would like to have as many students, faculty and staff as possible visit the college during architecture week.
Elaine Asal, architecture senior and AIAS vice president, said the round-table discussion will consist of three individuals: a reporter for The Oklahoma Gazette, who has covered architecture, planning and environmental issues, an architect with Elliot and Associates in Oklahoma City and a recent graduate of the College of Architecture.
The first week will end with the Beaux Arts Ball, Asal said.
"The Beaux Arts Ball is always a good stress reliever," Asal said.
Asal said this year's theme is "fire and ice." She said the ball will be held at Palacio de Santa Fe, which is located at 2411 S. Classen Blvd. in Norman.
OU students and professors attend every year, Asal said.
The Bruce Goff Lecture Series will feature Craig Dykers, who is one of three principal architects with Snohetta, an architecture firm based in Oslo, Norway, said Thomas Mical, assistant professor of architecture.
Specketer has invited all students, faculty and staff to visit the AIAS Web site at www.ou.edu/student/aias for more information regarding architecture week.
