Although only eight weeks of school have passed, students are already beginning to count down the days until commencement.
To help students with the graduation process, the offices of OU Public Affairs, Student Affairs and Alumni Affairs have coordinated the fourth annual Commencement Countdown which began Monday in Beaird Lounge of Oklahoma Memorial Union.
"This event is meant to be a one-stop shop where graduating students can get everything done they need to for graduation," said Becky Heeney, assistant to the vice president for Public Affairs.
Additional information is now available about commencement and different colleges' convocation ceremonies, Heeney said. Students are also able to purchase their caps and gowns, announcements and yearbooks.
"Everything a student would need to know about the graduation process and all the other little things you need to know about the transition from student to alumnus and student to professional will be available," Heeney said.
Seniors are able to meet with representatives from different departments on campus including the Alumni Association and OU Career Services, according to a Public Affairs press release.
At past Commencement Countdowns, Career Services has provided resume samples, cover letter samples and job search tips, said Bette Scott, director for Career Services.
"We're really just wanting to let people know we're here, especially those who have never heard of us," Scott said.
Scott suggested seniors who are beginning their job search come by the Career Services office in Room 323 of the union to receive more in-depth help. The office has counselors available to answer job search questions, give resume writing tips and offer other general job search advice.
"A lot of what we do is to act as a sounding board for people going on a process they may have never been on before," Scott said.
Information is also available on student loan consolidation, job re-location and information about who students can donate student supplies to, Heeney said.
Commencement Countdown is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., today and Wednesday in Beaird Lounge.
