An OU student is in the Cleveland County Detention Center and another is in Norman Regional Hospital following an incident that occurred early Friday morning.
Heidi Melynn Barker, 18, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection to an assault that happened at Sterling University Greens apartments, 2900 Oak Tree Ave., according to a Norman Police Department press release.
According to police, Barker met Danny Cork, 23, at a party early Friday. Barker and Cork left the party and went to Cork's apartment. Cork told police that while they were in the apartment, the suspect stabbed him twice, according to the press release. The instrument used was a steak knife from Cork's apartment, said Norman police Lt. Glenn Dobry.
Cork's roommate transported him to Norman Regional Hospital for treatment, according to the press release. Police said it was during this time that the suspect walked away from the apartment.
While investigating Cork's apartment, officers located the suspect's identification, found her at her apartment and took her into investigative detention, according to the press release.
Cork, an OU senior walk-on running back with the football team, is in fair condition at Norman Regional Hospital, said Grant Farrimond, a hospital spokesman.
Kenny Mossman, director of athletic media relations, said he could not comment on the ongoing police investigation, but said he has heard that Cork seems to be recovering well.
OU Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione released a statement on Sunday.
"Obviously, we are very concerned about this situation and the lives impacted by such an occurrence," Castiglione said. "However, this is a police matter and it would be inappropriate for us to comment or discuss at this time."
Barker is being held at the Cleveland County Detention Center on a $10,000 bail.
