Little League Hero, a local band, has gone through the many stages common to a small group. Musicians come and go, names change and tours pass. But Little League Hero's one constant has been guitarist and vocalist, Kyle Caldwell.
Caldwell began composing his own music in high school. "It just got to the point that I heard music and I couldn't stand not to make it," he said. "You can be having a bad day, out of town, not yourself but you can always jump into some song you wrote."
He began the group a few years ago under the name of Sixattackcattaxis. The band then went by the name Linus.
"We were Linus until we realized there were three Linuses in the Dallas area alone so we had to find a new name," said Caldwell.
In the end, a friend of the band and local producer dubbed them Little League Hero.
One problem facing small time musicians is the instability of band makeup. Little League Hero has had many different combinations of musicians, but Caldwell says the group he has now is very talented.
"If you can't play a song with your bandmates, that's a sign the band is going to be good," he said.
Originally, Caldwell composed Little League's music on his own, but lately, the band has been collaborating in the composition of their songs.
"The collaboration is what it's all about," said Justin Barnes, the drummer for Little League Hero. "We play around with something and the music turns out great."
"We all write our own parts. Somebody comes up with a part with their respective instrument, and everyone just builds on that," said James Williams, the other guitarist.
With a different mix of musicians, Caldwell and Little League released their first album, "Star," but Caldwell says it's not really indicative of the band's sound now. They are working on releasing a new album which is still untitled and a release date has not been set.
"The most interesting thing about me is the most interesting thing about everybody," said Caldwell. "We're all so much the same but there is one percent of everybody that is unique. Mine is my creativity."
