The Summer Breeze Concert Series continues in Norman as the last three of ten bands will perform until Sept. 21.
The final three bands of the concert series are Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Calliope House and Byron Berline Band.
Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, hailed as the "No. 1 new star of jazz in America" by U.S. News and World Report , will appear 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at Lions Park, Flood Avenue.
Calliope House will play 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at Lions Park.
Calliope House member Wayne Cantrell said the group is glad to be a part of the concert series.
"There are lots of great bands out there, and it's an honor to be in the lineup with them," Cantrell said. "This is our first time to play in the Summer Breeze Concert. We are very much looking forward to it."
Cantrell said the concert series is an opportunity for families to get out and hear great music by different bands. Members of the Calliope House hope they will be heard by people who enjoy their music, Cantrell said.
The final concert of the series will be by the Byron Berline Band 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at Lions Park.
Berline was inducted to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Summer Breeze Concert Series was created four years ago after OU quit its "Summer Winds" performances, said Marisa Bruner, co-chairwoman of the Summer Breeze Concert Series.
"We were able to attract more bands when the series got corporate sponsorship three years ago," Bruner said.
Bruner said she booked six bands in the first year of sponsorship, and she booked ten bands the last two years.
Skye Biers, Summer Breeze sponsor, said she was looking to do something for the community.
"I am really big on giving back to the community, and this was a perfect fit," Biers said.
Another sponsor, Jaime Wedemeyer, also enjoys giving.
"There is great diversity in the crowd," Wedemeyer said. "There is something for all ages at the concerts."
Families can bring their children and have a picnic while the concert goes on, Wedemeyer said.
