Former OU registrar faces drug charges
by   |  April 3, 2003  |

A former OU registrar has been released on his own recognizance after having three charges filed against him in Cleveland County District Court.
Marc Stephen Borish, 55, has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent, public intoxication and possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony, said Ron Boone, Cleveland County assistant district attorney.
Borish retired as registrar and director of admissions in 2001 after 27 years with the university, said Jeff Hickman, university press secretary.
Norman police arrested Borish after receiving reports that he was intoxicated and trying to get inside a house at 426 W. Comanche St., according to a Norman police report. When police arrived, Borish told an officer he had a gun in a backpack.
Police discovered a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun, according to the police report. Police also found four baggies of marijuana. When questioned about the marijuana, Borish said, "Oh, that's for personal use," according to the report. An officer also found a marijuana cigarette in the ashtray of Borish's vehicle.
Borish's preliminary hearing conference date has been set for April 8, Boone said. If convicted, Borish could face two years to life in prison for possession of marijuana, up to 10 years for possession of a firearm and a fine and up to 30 days in county jail for public intoxication. Boone said Borish has no criminal record.
