Carpenter Square holds auditions for 2003 season
by   |  September 9, 2002  |

Carpenter Square Theatre will perform several broadway plays throughout the semester.

OU students will have their chance to break into Oklahoma City's limelight, by auditioning on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. for Carpenter Square Theatre's 2003 productions.

Located in downtown Oklahoma City at 400 W. Sheridan Ave., the theater performs several world-renowned plays throughout the year.

Actors should bring a recent resume and photo and be prepared to read from scripts at auditions. Callbacks are scheduled for 7 p.m. that day.

About 25 roles will be cast following auditions. Age ranges from 20 to 60 years old for auditioning actors.

Some characters require Irish, German and New York dialects.

Productions auditioning include "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940,""It Runs in the Family" and "Romance in D."

Currently showing at Carpenter Square Theatre is the nostalgic comedy, "Lost in Yonkers," Neil Simon's twenty-seventh play to open on Broadway.

The play garnered him the Pulitzer Prize, the Tony Award, as well as, the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards, among others.

Critics and audiences alike seemed to connect to the story of family ties that bind and chafe.

Installing three generations of a Jewish family under one roof, Simon illustrates how we are molded by our families, whether they are nurturing or destructive.

The play shows through Sept. 28 and tickets are $10 for students.

Other performances scheduled throughout the year include "Murder in Green Meadows," showing Oct. 18 through Nov. 9, "Side Man," showing Feb. 21 through March 15 and "A Hotel on Marvin Gardens," showing March 28 through April 19.

Anyone interested in auditioning may call (405) 232-6500 or visit online at www.carpentersquare.com for more information.
