University reviews development proposals
by   |  June 17, 2002  |

Proposals for property development of the Yorkshire and Parkview apartments are currently under review by the university.

The request for proposals were sent out in hope of finding a way to maximize the benefits of the locations.

Vice president of Public Affairs, Catherine Bishop said the requests for property development proposals were sent out to a number of development firms. The deadline for receiving the proposals from the various firms was Tuesday.

"As part of an ongoing process of evaluating ways to maximize benefits to the university, OU has issued a request for proposals to determine how five parcels of its property might be developed if the properties were made available," Bishop said.

The five parcels of land include Yorkshire Apartments, vacant land just north of Yorkshire, Parkview Apartments, a vacant parcel of land between holes nine and 10 on the OU Jimmie Austin Golf Course, and a vacant parcel of land located west of hole 17 on the OU Jimmie Austin Golf Course.

"Each proposal should contain competent and thorough information regarding how the proposal will meet the interests of the university," according to the request.

Also according the request, the proposals should specify in as much detail as necessary the amount, timing, duration, probability and underlying assumptions. OU is seeking the firm that demonstrates an informed, thorough, and well thought-out approach for conceptualizing, planning, and implementing, revenue-generating uses of real estate.

In regards to Yorkshire Apartments, the land north of Yorkshire and the Parkview Apartments, the firms' proposals may include removal of existing facilities, the construction of new facilities on the site or the complete renovation of existing facilities. OU will also entertain proposals to construct student housing, zero-lot-line private homes, or retirement housing accompanied by assisted living and/or non-acute, non-chronic health care services. This is only if the best-value alternative involves long-term operation of the property.
