The U.S. Marine Corps reserve's 55th annual Toys for Tots drive will end Dec. 19.
The OU ROTC is helping collect for this national fund-raiser and is encouraging OU students, faculty and staff to bring donations of new, unwrapped toys to the Department of Naval Science, the Naval ROTC, at the south end of the armory building, main office Room 12.
Toys for Tots wants to help less fortunate children experience the joy of Christmas.
"I think it's important to donate to make sure some little girl or boy will have something to open on Christmas," said Lauren Hamman, public relations junior.
The most important reason to donate is to make a difference in the lives of countless economic disadvantaged youngsters throughout the United States, said Major William J. Grein in a recent news release.
The mission of the Toys for Tots program is to collect as many new, unwrapped toys each year and distribute them to needy children at Christmas.
Last year Toys for Tots distributed more than 13 million toys to more than 6 million kids in the nation.
The Toys for Tots program wants to play an active role in the lives of the nations most valuable resource: children. And by contributing to the annual toy drive, communities unite and thus contribute to better communities in the future, said the Toys for Tots Web site.
"The OU community is donating their time, money and effort to help out this great cause and I am happy to be a part of this community," said Krysten Sullivan, premed junior.
