Norman police are investigating a string of car thefts thought to be perpetrated by nine juveniles ranging from 14 to 16 years of age.
Police believe the suspects may have stolen as many as 10 vehicles though only five have been recovered, according to a Norman police press release. The investigation reaches across multiple jurisdictions.
The first vehicle was recovered on the morning of Dec. 9, when they responded to a single car accident at the 600 block of Mimosa Drive, according to the release. Police determined the car had been stolen.
Two more vehicles were recovered when police received an anonymous tip about the location of the vehicles, the release said.
Norman police Lt. Glenn Dobry said a third vehicle was recovered during a police pursuit on Saturday, which involved one of the stolen vehicles. The driver of the vehicle was only 14 years old, and wrecked during the pursuit, injuring one person.
Dobry said the case is still under investigation and that, during questioning by Norman police department's Patrol Bureau and Criminal Investigations Bureau, some of the suspects said they had ridden in what they had believed to be stolen vehicles.
"Through the investigation, it was revealed that there are possibly other cars that these people admit to being in," Dobry said.
