Norman police continue to search for a man driving a silver-gray four-door vehicle. The man is wanted in connection with an attempted abduction, said Norman Police Lt. Mike Freeman.
Two Norman girls evaded an abductor Friday at 700 block of Shultz Drive, according to the Norman Police Department. Since then, at least five more children have reported incidents.
After police released an artist rendering of the suspect Monday, leads began to pour in, Freeman said. So far police is looking at six to seven serious leads. In all of these leads the description of the suspect and the car were consistent, he said.
Police has increased patrol through Norman, especially in the area where the first abduction attempt was reported, Freeman said.
The girls told investigating officers that they were approached on Friday by a man in a car asking if they wanted a kitten.
The girls declined and the man reached out of his car and grabbed one of the girls wrists. The girl pulled away and both girls fled to a nearby house where police were called, according to Norman Police statement.
Freeman said the public has been very concerned, especially in wake of the recent reports of child abductions all over the nation. He said some citizens picked up a copy of the artist's sketch and distributed it in their neighborhoods along with a suspect description.
The suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 years old with short brown hair. He was driving a silver-gray four door sedan, according to a press release.
Norman police share all information with other law enforcement agencies, Freeman said. Officers are investigating possible connections to reports in Shawnee and Tecumseh, according to a Norman Police press release. So far children in Shawnee, Seminole, Moore, Oklahoma City and surrounding metro areas have reported incidents, police said.
Police urges Norman citizens to be on high alert. Parents should warn their children and talk to them about the dangers of talking to strangers.
Residents should call the police department at 321-1600. Anyone with information about a suspect should call Crime Stoppers at 366-7867.
