Speakers and participants from around the world will attend OU libraries' and OU Foundation's annual conference Thursday and Friday.
The conference, "Digital Age: Impact on Library Collections and Cooperation," will feature many influential speakers from as far away as Oxford, England, said Melanie Cartwright, administrative secretary in the dean's office at Bizzell Memorial Library.
Deans, library directors and librarians from around the country will be in attendance, Cartwright said.
The conference improves OU's visibility nationally and it is useful in comparing notes and networking with people from around the country, said Beverly Joyce, instruction coordinator at Bizzell Memorial Library.
The annual conference brings together librarians from all over the country so that they can find fasterand better ways to do things, Joyce said.
"It keeps you from having to reinvent the wheel," Joyce said.
The focus of this year's conference is reflective of movements that are going on around the world in libraries, said Don Hudson, director of administration.
Nine speakers, two of which will be vendors, will be at this year's conference, Hudson said.
Vendors will be Karen Hunter, senior vice president of Elsevier Science of New York City, and Philip Blackwell, group chief executive of Blackwell Ltd. of Oxford, Hudson said.
The conference will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday and end at noon Friday at the Embassy Suites Hotel.
