Only two days remain until high school and junior college football prospects are free to sign a national letter of intent.
OU has 28 players ready to sign on Wednesday, but the Sooners' recruiting efforts haven't stopped.
Two players, Florida linebacker Willie Jones and Texas cornerback Quan Cosby, have yet to decide where they will attend college. Both players have OU at or near the top of their lists.
Jones, a 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound linebacker from Miami Carol City, has announced that he is deciding between OU and Florida State. He said both schools have an equal chance. Jones' father, Willie Jones Sr., played football at Florida State before becoming a high school football coach. However, the elder Jones' prior ties to the Seminoles are not expected to play a part in the decision-making process.
OU defeated Florida State 13-2 on Jan. 3 to win the school's seventh national championship.
The other recruit waiting to make his announcement, Cosby, may have more than just two schools to decide from.
A 5-foot-10-inch, 180-pound cornerback from Mart, Texas, Cosby lists OU and Baylor as front-runners. He also lists Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA and Florida State as contenders.
The Sooners lost one commitment last week when offensive lineman Dominique Steamer decomitted from OU and chose Texas A&M. Although Steamer had previously committed to the Sooners, speculation surrounded his on-going contact with Texas A&M coaches, prompting OU's coaching staff to withdrawal its offer of a scholarship.
Despite losing Steamer, the Sooners' 2001 recruiting class is still considered the best in the country by Rivals.com.
