OU President David Boren welcomed guests to the Greek Awards Banquet Tuesday night in Oklahoma Memorial Union Ballroom.
Boren said this was a night for OU to celebrate its accomplishments.
"We have an all-greek GPA of 3.0," Boren said. "We have set our record of over $100,000 in donating."
Boren spoke about real friendships, and how those friendships are meaningful to the greek community.
"You never really leave here for good because the memories always stay here," Boren said. "You've made a tremendous difference to the university."
C. Don Bradley, Center for Student Life director, said that Tuesday was the first night that all four greek organizations had come together for the Greek Awards Banquet.
The awards recognized OU collegians, alumni and faculty for their involvement in Concilio Nacional de Hermandades Latinas, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic and Panhellenic Association.
Katie Eidson, Panhellenic Association president, said the sororities have excelled in grades this year.
"We have a 3.173 GPA, setting an all-time panhellenic high," Eidson said. "And the highest overall GPA 3.2927 for sororities and fraternities combined."
The Top 10 Greeks were chosen for their community service, individual commitment to their greek chapter and to the greek community.
Beth Stathos, Center for Student Life assistant director and Panhellenic adviser, said each greek chapter chose an outstanding member.
"This is the highest individual award," Stathos said. "It is based on leadership, involvement in the sorority and in the greek community."
Greg Kunesh, OU drama professor, was awarded the outstanding faculty member award.
A new award called the "Giving Tree Award" was given this year to honor a sorority that has a strong commitment to all 11 sororities through campus involvement. This award was given to Delta Gamma sorority. A tree will be planted on Arbor Day to honor them.
