Switzer named to Oklahoma Hall of Fame

Barry Switzer is among seven Oklahomans who will be honored Nov. 18 at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center in Oklahoma City. The seven individuals will be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.

Switzer was the head football coach at OU from 1973 to 1988 and had the nation's best active winning percentage at the time of his resignation. He won three national championships, in 1974, 1975 and 1985, at OU and one Super Bowl championship with the Dallas Cowboys.

Switzer is also being honored for his off-the-field contributions. He was a founding organizer of the Swing for Sight golf tournaments and is a 25-year captain of the Special Olympics.

He has also funded a program of non-athletic minority scholarships.

Other honorees are Larry Brummett, Tulsa; Jean G. Gumerson, Oklahoma City; Abe Lemons, Oklahoma City; Jay O'Meilia, Tulsa; H.E. "Gene" Rainbolt, Oklahoma City; and Jimmy I. Webb, New York City.
