City to vote on rates
by   |  March 10, 1999  |

The Norman City Council and residents were talking trash at Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

After a long debate, the City Council unanimously decided to put sanitation and water rate increases before citywide vote.

The election is scheduled for May 11. The sanitation increase would raise trash pickup $1.50 a month, raising prices from $8 to $9.50. That fee would provide for three trash cans to be picked up once a week.

Any trash containers over three would be charged at 50 cents for household waste and 25 cents for yard waste.

Stickers would be sold at local grocery stores showing an individual has paid for the extra trash.

There is also a section requiring curbside recycling. If passed, residents would pay a $2 monthly fee for recyclable goods to be picked up once a week. The city would provide a recycling container to all households.

If passed, water rates will also increase. Residents who use less than 15,000 gallons a month would not see a change. Those who use 15 to 20,000 gallons a month would pay $2 per 1,000 gallon, and those who use over 20,000 gallons a month would pay $4 per 1,000 gallons.
hello there & you too
