Professor named director of literary quarterly

Davis will oversee the international literary quarterly and two major international events -- the $40,000 Neustadt International Prize for Literature competition and the Puterbaugh Conference on World Literature.
Davis, who joined the OU faculty in 1980, has served as editor or guest editor of several literary book collections and journals. He is co-author of the OU Press' book series, the Oklahoma Project for Discourse and Theory.
He also has served as moderator of The Power of Ideas, a weekly half-hour television interview program produced by the Oklahoma Scholar-Leadership Enrichment Program. The series airs on OETA.
The appointment of Davis was announced at Monday's meeting of the OU regents.
Asp Avenue to be closed beginning Thursday
Asp Avenue will be closed between Felgar Street and Kuhlman Court for three days beginning Thursday while contractors install a new storm drain in support of the Oklahoma Memorial Union Phase III construction project, according to the OU Public Affairs Office.
The work will require Asp Avenue to be completely blocked for the three-day period. In addition, parking spaces and some sidewalk access along Kuhlman Court will be affected by this work.
No parking will be permitted along Asp Avenue between Felgar and the actual construction blockage, which will be immediately north of Kuhlman Court. Sidewalks on both sides of the street will also be closed during this process.

Neighbors want man with Tourette's to move
CHICAGO -- Neighbors of a man with Tourette's syndrome are trying to force him out of his condominium because his foot-stomping, hooting and barking are keeping them awake.
On Monday, however, they agreed to stop trying to oust 53-year-old Jeffrey Marthon until a federal lawsuit is permanently resolved.
Marthon is suing the condominium association, saying federal laws protecting the disabled should keep him from being forced out. Monday's agreement followed a warning from U.S. District Judge Milton Shadur, who agreed with Marthon that he is protected by law.
Marthon, an attorney, has been troubled by Tourette's syndrome all his life. The neurological disorder causes abrupt, involuntary body movements and sounds.
Marthon and his wife, Maureen Kilty, lived peacefully at the Maple Grove condominiums in suburban Downers Grove for a dozen years.
He said the problems did not begin until last September.
