Car thieves target southeast Norman
by   |  January 26, 1999  |

At least 11 cars were broken into and one car was stolen late Sunday night or early Monday morning in southeast Norman.
All of the cars were in the Hampton Woods, Forest Pointe and Cardinal Creek apartment complexes.

Norman police officers dusted the cars for fingerprints but found none, according to the police report.

Police called Milton Simpson, first-year pharmacy student, at 4 a.m. Monday, to tell him a speaker box was laying on the ground beside his truck.

Simpson said a tool was used to pry the door open. The speakers, estimated at $200, were taken from Simpson's truck. He had not taken his truck to have the damage estimated, but police estimated the damage at $300.

"The locks still work, it's just cosmetic damage," Simpson said.

Simpson said police called him Monday and told him they had caught the people who had broken into the cars. Norman police officials could not confirm anyone had been arrested for the burglaries.

Damage to the cars was estimated at about $9,400, according to the police report. The stolen car was estimated at $13,500.

A women's Gucci watch, a men's Omega watch, a radar detector and seven compact discs were reported stolen from a car at Forest Pointe. A $200 stereo and about $1,800 worth of CDs were reported stolen from a car at Hampton Woods.
