Cultural society to host lecture Tuesday at gallery
The American Indian Cultural Society will host a lecture by John Kemble at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Tribes Gallery. Kemble will discuss drum etiquette and how to recognize differences in drum songs. Kemble serves as Head Singer or master of ceremonies at powwows and gourd dances. The American Indian Cultural Society is a non-profit, intertribal organization working toward the preservation of American-Indian heritage and culture. The public is welcome to attend. The American Indian Cultural Society will also host several other events this semester.
Math department receives funds to endow chair
The OU Department of Mathematics recently received almost $346,000 from the estate of the late Richard D. Resco to endow a Graduate Fellowships in mathematics Fund through the OU Foundation. Resco was an OU faculty member from 1981 until his death in 1997. "This fund will allow the mathematics department for the first time to offer both full and partial fellowships to highly qualified mathematics graduate students at nationally competitive stipend levels," said Kevin Grasse, professor and chairman of the mathematics department.
Teenline schedules volunteer training in OKC
Teenline, a statewide telephone helpline for young people, has scheduled volunteer training on Jan. 30-31 in Oklahoma City. Teenline is a resource for teens and young adults who need someone to listen to troubling issues. For more information about volunteer training, call 522-3855.
