The OU School of Drama ends its season with the Tony Award-winning A Chorus Line. The school's version of the long-running Broadway musical opens at 8 tonight in Rupel Jones Theatre.
A Chorus Line gives an inside look at the lives of a group of actors during an audition. The play shows the ups and downs that this colorful group of actors goes through.
For OU's production the school has used actors who have been a part of the show before. The lead role of Cassie is played by guest artist Shannon Lee Jones. Her credits include acting roles on Broadway, International Tours and in the soap opera All My Children.
Jones first played Cassie during an international tour of the show. She said she's very excited to return to the role.
"As an actress, Cassie is very challenging for me," Jones said. "She's at a place where she's totally stripped. She has a lot of vulnerability. I think to be vulnerable in this day is a big challenge."
The show was directed by Ken Leigh Rogers, who is finishing his first year as an assistant professor in the School of Dance and the musical theater program.
Rogers was in A Chorus Line in New York and London and has also performed in five other Broadway musicals.
Rogers said performing in the show was helped in directing the show.
"I haven't touched this show since I was in it," he said. "I thought it was time to complete the cycle."
The show will also run at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and April 22 through 24. There will also be two 2 p.m. matinee, one Sunday and one on April 25. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for senior adults, OU faculty and staff and $10 for students. Tickets are on sale at Fine Arts College Ticket Service in Catlett Music Center.
