For those who want to help the Kosovar refugees but feel like they are too far away to make a difference, an opportunity has come.
Donations can be made to the Kosovo Refugee Relief effort Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Normandy Creek Center parking lot, 24th Northwest and Main Street.
Katherine Vittitow, a Norman lawyer who is heading up the project, heard that Feed the Children was sending relief supplies to the refugees and wanted to get the Norman community involved.
"I just hope to make whatever dent we can," Vittitow said. "I know it will just be a drop in the bucket comparatively."
Vittitow said although there are a lot of events going on Saturday, she would like to see the student community stand behind this.
"This is a great opportunity to help. It only takes five to 10 minutes to come and drop off the items," she said.
Suggested donations include health and hygiene items, first-aid supplies, outdoor equipment and non-perishable food items.
Mona Nelson, deputy treasurer with the Cleveland County Treasurer's office, said she feels compelled to volunteer Saturday.
"When you live in the United States it's hard to imagine anything like this happening," Nelson said. "We got a little taste with the bombing of the federal building, and our community pulled together. I'd like to see our community pull together in the same way for an international cause."
Even if students can't afford to give donations, Vittitow said their volunteer help will be welcomed.
Those interested in helping collect donations should just show up at the site.
